Based on the evidence of my experience inside the Mennonite community, if Josef Fritzl were a member of the Mennonite community and I were his Mennonite daughter, the Mennonite pastors and family members who were aware of the crimes would have colluded in a conspiracy of silence to cover up the incest and multiple rapes that Josef committed, would have refused Elisabeth Fritzl any process or forum of justice to hold Josef Fritzl accountable for his crimes, and would have pressured Elisabeth to forgive her father who “used his daughter like his property“, pressured her to forgive her mother and siblings who knew and did nothing to stop the crimes, and pressured her to forgive the “men of God” who were talking about it behind her back but refused to confront or hold her father accountable, and who did nothing to assist or support her – instead of objecting, on the basis of their conscience, to the horror of these crimes and demanding accountability and an independent process and forum of justice, as the rest of the world is rightfully doing – and Josef Fritzl would not have changed his ‘not guilty’ plea to ‘guilty’, after hearing his daughter’s heart-wrenching testimony in court.
